Wanga unveils ambitious ECDE projects to build 160 classrooms

Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga lays the foundation stone for ECDE at God Ndonyo Primary School.

The Homa Bay County Government has unveiled an ambitious programme that will establish quality and affordable early childhood education classrooms.

The announcement was made by Governor Gladys Wanga when she presided over the launch of the construction of 160 modern classrooms for early years learners in the county.

She said that after completion, they will add to already existing 80 classrooms that were constructed in selected primary schools last year under the Genowa Ondoa Kaunda Classroom initiative.

Speaking at God Ndonyo Primary School in Kibiri Ward on Thursday, she said the projects will sprawl equitably to all Wards in the county, expressing hope that the improved infrastructure will encourage the early learning enrollment.

“Children like to stay in areas where they feel happy and comfortable,” she observed, cautioning school committees assigned to oversee construction of the classrooms against misappropriating the money entrusted to them.

The governor was flanked by her education CECM Martin Opere and that of finance Silomon Obiero, among other county officials.

Obiero said that they employed local labour to enable them earn a living from the projects.
