Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof John Akama has assured his support to President Ruto and asked him to champion promotion of education in local Universities.
“Our Universities are centres of research. We hope the President, himself being a scholar, will steer them to greater heights by providing enough finances for research and innovation,” he said.
Speaking to the public at Kisii town on Wednesday, the Professor thanked the outgoing government for investing a lot in education and technological advancement and then asked President Ruto to build on that record in order to achieve the mooted vision 2030.
Prof Akama further thanked the government for introducing Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) services to polytechnics saying that the move eased congestion in the Universities.
The Professor reminded residents that Kenya was still a developing country whose prosperity depended on quality education.
He then asked parents to be conversant with different levels of education and institutions where they are offered in order to provide sufficient advice to their children when selecting courses.
The Professor later on asked the residents of Kisii County to put aside their political differences and join hands to work with the government of the day.
