More than 30 university students stormed the Bobasi Constituency NG‑CDF office on Friday, demanding answers over delayed bursary disbursements. The learners accused staff of absenteeism and poor service delivery, saying the inefficiency had left many without financial support despite applying for assistance.

The students argued that bursary allocations are their right and questioned why some colleagues had received funding while others were excluded.

With university examinations set to begin on Monday, they expressed fear that unpaid fees could bar them from sitting their papers. “I am not sure about my future now if I do not get this money,” said Leonard Atemba, a student at Maseno University.

The group issued an ultimatum to NG‑CDF workers, demanding a response by Monday or threatening legal action for failure to serve effectively. Residents have since appealed to area MP Innocent Obiri to interrogate his constituency office over alleged incompetence and restore confidence in the bursary system.

Residents who spoke to Education News urged calm and cautioned against impatience. They blamed the students for resorting to demonstrations and asked them to embrace dialogue instead.

“Some matters can be solved amicably without disrupting services or creating tension,” one resident said.

Alfred Mosiori, a law court mediator, said that embracing dialogue is critical in settling quarrels because it allows both sides to be heard, clarify misunderstandings, and find practical solutions without breaking relationships. Demonstrations and threats may create attention, but they often harden positions and delay the very assistance people seek.

“Dialogue builds trust between leaders, offices, and citizens, ensures grievances are addressed fairly, and protects the dignity of all involved,” he said.

Residents now hope MP Obiri will act swiftly to address the allegations and restore confidence in the NG-CDF office to ensure deserving students receive their bursaries, and prevent learners from missing examinations due to delayed funding.
