Uganda’s Namugongo Secondary and Vocational School will face an early test of their quest for the regional volleyball title when they meet Kenya’s national runners-up, Chepsaita, in their opening boys’ volleyball match at the FEASSSA Games tomorrow in Morogoro, Tanzania.
Namugongo return to the regional stage with a point to prove after losing last year’s final to Kenya’s Cheptil High School. Cheptil edged the Ugandan side 3–2 in a thrilling gold-medal match at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on August 22, 2025.
This year, however, Cheptil will not feature in the final reckoning after their campaign was halted by former national and East Africa champions Andersen at the semi-final stage of the Rift Valley regional games in Narok County.

Chepsaita subsequently defeated Andersen to secure their place as Kenya’s national runners-up, earning the right to represent the country at the FEASSSA Games.
That sets the stage for an intriguing opening encounter between Namugongo and Chepsaita, with both teams carrying different sources of motivation. Namugongo will be keen to show that last year’s defeat was merely a setback and that they remain one of the region’s strongest volleyball sides, with their experience on the FEASSSA stage expected to prove crucial in handling the pressure of a tournament opener.
Chepsaita, meanwhile, will be determined to announce their arrival with a statement win. Their victory over Andersen offers a strong indication of their competitiveness, but facing Namugongo will demand another level of discipline and consistency.
Friday’s clash therefore promises to be more than just an opening match — an early battle between two of the region’s strongest sides, both eager to make a statement in the race for the boys’ volleyball crown.
