Prof George Chemining’wa has taken over as the new head of Turkana University College bringing leadership wrangles to an end.
Deputy Principal Prof Fredrick Kasily assumed the office on acting capacity after the suspension of Prof Thomas Akuja who was sent on compulsory leave to give way for investigation over alleged financial irregularities.
Prof. Thomas Akuja was suspended by the former University Council whose two-year term ended in June this year. However, the Ministry appointed new Council early July.
While addressing the press, new Chairman Dr. Solomon Muchina said that he intends to end the vicious cycle of wrangles and shift the focus to development.
Dr. Solomon added that the appointment of Prof. Chemining’wa to head the institution is the end of the leadership vacuum that has that knocked at the beginning of this year.
In his acceptance speech, Prof George Chemining’wa affirmed that he is set to achieve institution’s targets through cooperation of the staff, local community and the county leadership.
Chemining’wa further added that, having accepted the challenge, he plans to see institution receives a charter in two years.
Prof Chemining’wa previously worked as a professor of agronomy and dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Nairobi.
