Bomet University will hold its first graduation ceremony on October 30, 2026, and President William Ruto is expected to attend, fulfilling a pledge he made during a recent official tour of Bomet County.
The ceremony follows the institution's transition into an independent public university. President Ruto awarded it its University Charter on February 4, 2026, at State House, Nairobi.

The charter separated Bomet University from Moi University, where it had operated as a constituent college since its establishment, and made it Kenya's 36th public chartered university.

University officials, led by Council Chairperson Prof John Shiundu and Vice-Chancellor Prof Charles Mutai, together with local leaders, have completed final preparations. They expect hundreds of graduands, dignitaries and community members at the ceremony.
The university describes itself as a "Green University for Sustainability". It says it has built eco-friendly practices, renewable energy principles and environmental stewardship into its governance framework and academic curriculum.
