Just a day after Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha directed school closure by today Tuesday August 2, 2022 Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has directed all its County Directors to release teachers who are contracted to oversee this year’s election.

In its today’s August 2, 2022 Circular the Commission’s Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Nancy Macharia has directed the TSC County and Sub-county Directors to ensure those teachers who are contracted as Electoral Officials by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) have been released.

She further directed the county and sub-county bosses to ensure that all teachers report to school on August 11, 2022, when schools are reopened.

“Grant all teachers who have been contracted by the IEBC as election officials in the forth-coming General elections as per the provisions of the Code of Regulation for teachers,” said Dr. Macharia in the Circular.

She further directed institutional administrators to ensure that all schools designated by the IEBC as polling centres are made available for the exercise.

Education CS directed that all schools should be closed today to pave way for preparation of election, a move that Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) protested stating that they were not consulted.
