TSC Director resigns, cites frustrations at new station

Director

The immediate former Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Eastern Regional Director, Olendo Onono has resigned from his job at the Secretariat to take an early retirement.

Insiders who spoke to Education News indicate that Onono who is one of the longest serving field officers at the Commission, cited frustrations at the workplace necessitating his decision to leave the organization.

He reportedly handed over his resignation letter to the TSC boss, Nancy Macharia last week and his wish was understandably accepted immediately by the employer.

The 62 year-old Onono was among the first County Directors appointed in 2012 and served in several counties and was yet to attain his stipulated retirement age given that he is living with disability and is allowed by law to work up to the age of 65.

He had recently been deployed to the TSC headquarters following a reshuffle of field officers that saw several Regional Directors (RDs), County Directors (CDs), Deputy Directors and Sub-County Directors transferred to new stations while others were promoted and moved to new jurisdictions.

He was replaced as Eastern RD by Alex Cheruiyot who was then Makueni County Director.

Following the recent changes, Onono, who has been the Chairman of the panel of RDs, was posted to the Directorate of Field Services which is currently headed by Everlyne Mitei in an acting capacity. He had served at the station for a short stint before opting to call it quits.

He was among the first lot of RDs to be appointed after TSC revised its organizational structure to introduce the powerful post that oversees teacher management matters at the regional level. He was the first Western RD before being transferred to Eastern to replace his counterpart, Daniel Cherutoi who retired.

He had been replaced in Western as RD by the then Kericho CD, Lilian Wachira. The latter has since been recalled to TSC headquarters to take charge of the influential Head of Staffing in an acting capacity following the resignation of Rita Wahome much recently.
