The 8th edition of Kenya Universities Sports Federation-KUSF games has officially kicked off.
The games were officially launched by Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati at Kibabii University Grounds.
Speaking at the opening ceremony Governor Wangamati noted talent nurturing is one of the best practises that should be embraced by any country in order to achieve a physically fit Society .
According to governor Wangamati, sports can open the international financial gateway for many learners who are mostly youth hence creating a vibrant economic growth through their investments in areas such as Transport, Hospitality, Tourism and Real Estates.
The County boss thanked the Ministry of Education for choosing Bungoma county-based Kibabii University to host the National Fete saying it will create a booming business environment for the entire period the games will be on.
Governor Wangamati said engaging in sports while in University does not hinder anyone from performing excellently in their Academics.
On his part the Bungoma County Commissioner Mr. Samuel Kimiti assured all students and officials of maximum security for the entire period of the games.
The President of Kenya Universities Sports Federation-KUSF Mr. Babu Murithi noted that all was set for the event stating that all the covid -19 protocols would be followed strictly in line with the Ministry of Health Guidelines.
“All participants should ensure that they wear masks and sanitise all through and ensure they wash their hands regularly so as to keep safe from Covid-19 Infections.” Said Mr. Murithi”
Mr. Murithi noted that due to the Pandemic, many Universities have failed to register more teams to participate in every sporting category.
He said that the games are in two categories comprising the Out-Door sports like Football and Basketball and In-Door games like Table Tennis whereby the overall winners will be given Trophies for the Teams and Medals for Individual Champions.
The Kibabii University Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Planning Dr. Engineer Benedict Mutua thanked the ministry of Education and all partners for ensuring the event takes place and welcomed residents of Bungoma County to the institution to cheer their favourite teams.
This year’s theme of the 8th Edition of KUSF Games is ‘Nurturing Talents for Livelihood and Sustainability through Sports’.
