Students and Teachers Involved in a Road Accident recovering

Students and teachers of Yago mixed secondary school involved in a road accident at Komire along Awendo-Rongo road are recovering .

According to the conductor of the Matatu they had hired Kevin Otieno, the driver lost control of the Nissan matatu after it had a break failure before landing into a ditch.

“The matatu rolled repeatedly after the driver lost control of the matatu before it fell into a ditch,” said Otieno.

On her part Yago mixed secondary school deputy principal Mrs.Josephine Adhiambo who was also in the matatu speaking at Rongo Sub County hospital to the press said they were heading to Rongo University to watch a set book play before the accident took place.

She said that nine of the students were treated at Rongo Sub County hospital and discharged as other including two teachers and two conductors were referred to Migori referral hospital for further treatment.

“Nine of our students have been treated and declared fit for discharge from the hospital as the other nine students, two teachers and two conductors have been referred to Migori referral hospital for specialized treatment,” said Adhiambo.

However Awendo Sub County police commander Mary Wakuu while confirming the incident said they have launched a man hunt for the driver of the Matatu who took off after the incident and is still missing adding that further investigations on the matter is still on as the Matatu recage had been towed to Awendo police station for inspection.

“We have launched a man hunt for the matatu driver who escaped the scene after the incident as we continue with further investigations that will help unravel the cause of the accident,” said Wakuu
