Strong wind destroys buildings at Juluk primary school

By Martin Ruto

Juluk Mixed Boarding Primary School suffered a major loss after a strong wind destroyed some of its classrooms and dormitories. Students’ uniforms, mattresses and personal effects were blown 100m away from where they were.

The head teacher of the school, Jacob Idoket, said that it took about 30 minutes for the wind to subside and that a similar incident had happened 50 years ago.

Idoket appealed to well-wishers, NGO’s and the ministry of education to assist the school.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Turkana branch Executive Secretary Tony Nasia was among the first people to arrive at the school. He also appealed for assistance from well-wishers to enable the school resume operations.

Juluk mixed boarding primary school is in Turkana South sub-county, Turkana County with a population of about 900 pupils.
