A major crisis now looms in Kisumu County as schools in the area started admitting huge numbers of form ones.
A spot check in Kisumu town indicated that a number of schools realized huge turnouts as forms ones started arriving accompanied by their parents.
At Lions High school the Principal Eudia Oyier said that had been given 500 students by the ministry of education compared to 380 the previous year.
Bishop Francis Mwai Abiero high school will admit a similar number of form ones while Kisumu Boys high school is expecting over 400 students.
Earlier Sub-County education officers within Kisumu were called upon to ensure that all students who have been admitted to form one report to their various schools.
Area County director of education Mr Isaac Atebe said the 100% transition as directed by the government must be fully implemented.
Atebe said the officers must be on the lookout for parents who don’t take their children to school and that they should also mark head teachers who impose illegal levies on parents.
He said students should be sent home for failing to pay additional levies imposed by unscrupulous head teachers.
He urged the education officers to ensure that school resources within their areas of jurisdiction are well utilized.
He also told the officers to advise schools heads on the need to improve on their mean scores ahead of the next examinations
He also advised school heads to implement the Covid-19 containment rules for the benefit of both the teachers and learners.
