The community around Kenyenya Secondary School in Kisii County have requested the CS for Education, Ezekiel Machogu, to remind President Ruto to include them in his itinerary when he will be visiting Kisii County at the end of March to witness ‘the work of his hands.’
The community led by the School Board of Management Committee Chairperson, Pr. Neskson Mokua and parents said that they would like the President to visit the school to inspect part of a contribution he made when he was still the Deputy  President to former President Uhuru Kenyatta. The Board Chair revealed that Ruto gave them money to construct the school boys dormitory.
“He came in and helped us at the time of need and since that time we have never forgotten his deeds,” said the former Chairperson Dr. James Mbeche.
Mbeche narrated how parents struggled to put up the dormitory after a sudden fire outbreak gutted the dormitory down.
He also urged the area leadership to join hands with parents  and the community who have been struggling to mobilize resources towards infrastructural development in the school.
“We appeal to our current MP Obadiah Barongo to join hands with the CS Ezekiel Machogu and help our school head to the right direction in development,” said Lukas Karani a parent at the school.
Kenya Parents Association representative from Nyanza Region, Paul Mainga, praised the president’s love for education and expressed his hope that he will hear their pleas for him to visit the school.
Kenyenya Secondary School is one of the oldest schools in the area together with Riokindo, Mokomoni and Magena Boys High School.
According to the School Principal, Mr. Lawrence Makori, the school has made good strides after taking students to University and other middle level institutions of learning.
He cited lack of modern laboratory, a library and a dining hall as the main challenges faced by the school.
The Seventh Day Adventist(SDA) sponsored institution has produced significant personalities among them the former area MP, Joel Onyancha and the Director of Lenmek Hospital Dr. Ogando among other notable personalities.
Speaking at a different forum, former Bokimonge Ward MCA, George Bibao, asked the parents to name the school  Joel Onyancha Kenyenya Secondary School in memory of the legislator who was also an alumnus.
