Residents of South Mugirango Constituency in Kisii County have asked area MP Silvanus Osoro to honour the promise he made to them regarding education.
Led by Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Gucha branch chairman Mr. Joseph Michana Ibiri, the residents reminded Osoro to pay school fees for those who are yet to join Form 1 from his constituency.
“Osoro promised to use part of the NG-CDF kitty to pay fees for our children. We would like to remind him to honour that promise,” said Ibiri.
Arguing that the MP had supported education in the area by buying school buses for every school in the constituency, the residents challenged him to issue the same support to children from poor families.
Ibiri further asked the MP to avoid mixing politics with development if he wants to succeed in leadership.
“We are proud of what you have done as a leader. However, I would like to caution you to avoid those who are competing with you at the expense of development,” cautioned Ibiri.
In response, the MP told the residents that he will honour his pledges.
“Our children have a right to quality education and as the MP, I will give that a priority,” he said.
He revealed that he had instructed the NG-CDF committee to go through the bursary applications and award them to the Form Ones once they report to school.
“About 900 Form One students applied for the bursaries. I would like to assure them that they will all get enough money for term one school fees,” he said.
He asked parents who will benefit from the funds to strive hard and look for money to pay fees for the subsequent terms.
He concluded by cautioning parents to discourage their children from joining the boda boda industry at the expense of their education.
