Basic Education Principal Secretary, (PS) has directed all public schools to shift their procurement process to the Government digital portal popularly known as E- procurement (EGP) whenever they are sourcing goods and services.
Speaking in Esumeyia secondary school in Kakamega County, Basic Education Principal Secretary, Prof Julius Bitok asked all the Schools to move their procurements to the new system, he said this will assist in accountability.
“Schools are public entities and as such they will move with other arms of government to the E-procurement portal,” Bitok said.
PS Bitok also delve on the issues of discipline in public schools saying there are many cases being reported that are not in line with schools regulations.
Listing, the unbecoming behaviors PS Bitok said, corporal punishment and sexual harassment in schools will not be tolerated.

“I have sent officers to Marsabit to investigate alleged case of corporal punishment meted on learners in one of the schools in that County, once it is established, the law will take its course,” PS said.
His sentiment on outdated corporal punishment in schools met resounding reception from learners who also contempt a comeback of canning.
On sexual molestation reported in schools, the PS said speedy investigations will be done to allow the relevant agencies to take action.
He was accompanied by two other Principal Secretaries: Dr Caroline wanjiru karugu, PS East Africa Affairs,and Beatrice Inyangala, PS for Higher Education .
