A distressed mother in Bonyabong'ere village, Bonyamatuta Ward, Nyamira County, is appealing to security agencies to arrest a man she accuses of repeatedly defiling her two underage daughters, both of whom live with disabilities.
The mother told Education News that her daughters have endured sexual abuse by the suspect, who is well known in the village and continues to move about freely.
She said she first reported the matter to Nyamira Police, who at one point arrested the suspect but later released him without taking him to court, for reasons that remain unclear.
"When the suspect came back, I reported him to the area Chief but he advised me to wait for him to repeat the atrocity, which he has done, and I don't know what to do," she said.
She is now appealing to Nyamira County Commissioner Benson David Leparmorijo, the County Police Commander, and the Department of Children Services to intervene and ensure justice is served.
"I have reported everywhere, but I have not been helped. I am appealing to Commissioner Leparmorijo to help me get justice for my disabled children," she pleaded.
She said her daughters are traumatised and now live in fear.
Efforts to get a comment from the area Chief were unsuccessful by the time of going to press.
Child rights defenders in Nyamira are calling for immediate medical examination and counselling for the survivors, as well as the arrest and prosecution of the suspect.
