The National Parents Association (NPA) and Pan African Christian (PAC) University have agreed to work together to realise credible leadership through education, character formation and empowering parents in a bid to transform lives and shape the future of the country.
Speaking after a meeting between NPA and PAC University leadership on October 9, 2026, National Chairman David Silas Obuhatsa urged the Association's leadership from national, county, sub-county and zonal levels to embrace further training and professional development in areas that can strengthen their ability to serve fellow parents, learners and educational institutions.
"Serving as a parents' representative in any school requires knowledge, sound judgment, effective communication and a clear understanding of the challenges affecting children and families. As the education sector continues to evolve, NPA leaders must also embrace lifelong learning to remain informed, effective and responsive to the needs of the people they represent," said Obuhatsa.
The Association encourages its leadership to explore different areas of study, including School Management and Leadership, Guidance and Counselling, Information and Technology, General Leadership and Management, and Communication and Community Development, among others.

"The NPA believes that investing in the knowledge and skills of its leaders is an investment in the welfare of children and the future of education in Kenya. We therefore encourage PAC University to explore opportunities for engaging with NPA leadership through suitable educational programmes, professional development initiatives and knowledge-sharing forums," Obuhatsa added.(Education News Kenya — https://educationnews.co.ke/news/npa-pac-university-partner-to-empower-parents-on-good-leadership-in-schools)
The Association lauded PAC University for the role it has played in character formation among its students, noting that education should not be measured by academic qualifications alone but should be evaluated by the values, discipline, integrity and sense of responsibility that students develop throughout their educational journey.
According to the parents' body, Kenya needs professionals who are knowledgeable, ethical, compassionate and committed to serving society, as well as leaders who understand accountability, respect others, make responsible decisions and place service to the community at the centre of their work.
"The NPA recognises the opportunity for PAC University to contribute to this agenda by helping students explore relevant educational programmes and develop knowledge and skills that can support their personal and professional growth. Through appropriate training, practical learning and responsible leadership, students can be better prepared to address challenges within their families, workplaces and communities," said Obuhatsa.
"Character formation must begin at home, be reinforced in schools and continue throughout higher education and professional life. Parents remain central to this process and should be equipped with the information and skills necessary to guide their children effectively," he added.
The discussions between the PAC University and NPA delegations highlighted the importance of cooperation, with the two entities exploring practical areas of collaboration, including joint educational forums and parental empowerment programmes, career guidance and mentorship sessions for students and form four leavers, leadership and professional development opportunities for NPA leaders, information-sharing programmes on university courses and admission requirements, seminars on school management, guidance and counselling and digital literacy, community outreach activities to promote awareness of educational opportunities, and dialogues on strengthening cooperation between parents, schools and institutions of higher learning.
"Such initiatives could empower parents to make informed decisions, encourage young people to pursue suitable educational pathways and improve collaboration between families and educational institutions. The Association looks forward to continued engagement with PAC University to explore practical initiatives that can benefit parents, learners and communities," said Obuhatsa.
The NPA has also recognised the importance of cooperation with the government, through the Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders, in promoting quality education, appropriate guidance and access to reliable educational information.
