The 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations are going on well in Migori County, with no major incidents reported so far.
The main written papers began countrywide on Monday, November 2, following the oral and practical papers that started on October 19. In Migori, distribution of papers from sub-county containers is being supervised jointly by Deputy County Commissioners and Sub-County Directors of Education under tight security.
While opening the examination container and handing papers to principals on Monday, Suna East Deputy County Commissioner Milkaj Kariuki expressed satisfaction with the security and general management of the examinations and wished the exercise a smooth end.

Kadika Girls Principal Roselyne Ochieng said that, unlike last year, weather conditions this time round are friendly for the transportation of examination materials.

Migori County Director of Education Jacob Onyiego said the county has maintained smooth operations across its 290 examination centres in the 12 sub-counties, where about 33,000 candidates are registered.
Last year, the county presented 31,627 candidates in 290 centres. That was a major rise from 26,989 candidates in 2024, a 17 per cent increase. The number of centres had dropped from 312 to 290 following the rationalisation of private centres, while candidature increased.

Nationally, KCSE candidature has crossed the one million mark for the first time. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has confirmed that 1,048,355 candidates are registered for the 2026 KCSE, compared with 995,860 in 2025 and 965,172 in 2024. This is an increase of 52,495 candidates, or 5.27 per cent, over last year.

The examinations are scheduled to end on November 20, 2026, and will be the second-to-last KCSE under the 8-4-4 system before the full transition to Competency-Based Education in 2027.
