The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Machakos Branch is seeking to raise funds to purchase a union bus as part of efforts to strengthen its operations and improve service to members across the county.
The fundraising drive is taking place today, Saturday, October 17, 2026, during a thanksgiving ceremony at Machakos Muslim Primary School, bringing together KUPPET National Executive Council members, Machakos union officials, teachers from the county’s ten sub-counties and other branches in Kenya.
Branch Executive Secretary Yvonne Musyoka is coordinating the initiative, which seeks to mobilise resources towards acquiring a bus to facilitate the union’s activities and improve the movement of officials during engagements with members.
The planned acquisition is part of a wider development agenda aimed at strengthening the branch’s financial and operational capacity.
Another key proposal is the construction of KUPPET Machakos Plaza, which would provide permanent office space for the union and reduce recurring expenditure on rent.
Branch Chairman Martin Mutisya, popularly known as Team Kubwa, is expected to lead efforts to advance the branch’s development priorities alongside other officials.
Bus proposal featured in branch elections
The bus initiative also reflects proposals previously championed by Mambo George, popularly known as the Teachers’ President, during the branch elections under the Team Change platform.
Although Mambo did not win the chairmanship, his supporters maintain that some of the ideas advanced during the campaign are now informing the branch’s development agenda.
The proposals include strengthening teachers’ welfare, promoting accountability, improving representation and building the union’s institutional independence.
The fundraising event underscores the need for cooperation among union leaders in pursuing projects that benefit members beyond electoral competition.
The branch hopes to achieve its target through contributions from teachers and other supporters, paving the way for the acquisition of the bus and the pursuit of other long-term development projects.
