The education fraternity is mourning the death of Hellen Naututu Omoka, a veteran educationist who served as principal of several institutions, including Bunyore Girls High School, Butere Girls High School and Kericho Teachers Training College (TTC).
Omoka's death marks the loss of an education leader whose career saw her head institutions at different levels of Kenya's education system.
During her tenure as principal, she was entrusted with the responsibility of providing leadership, overseeing academic programmes and guiding teachers and learners in the institutions she served.
Her leadership at Bunyore Girls High School and Butere Girls High School placed her among the administrators who contributed to the management of girls' education in the country. She also served as principal of Kericho Teachers Training College, where she was involved in the training of teachers who would later serve in schools across the country.
Her death is expected to be felt by former colleagues, students, teachers and education stakeholders who interacted with her during her career. As tributes emerge, the education community is reflecting on the contribution of experienced school administrators in shaping institutions and mentoring generations of learners and teachers.
Further details regarding her death, burial arrangements and surviving family members had not been provided by the time of publication.
