A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate from ACK Kaptebee Senior School has died at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) shortly after sitting his Mathematics examination, leaving the education fraternity in mourning.
The deceased, Cornelius Kiplagat Rotich, reportedly developed medical complications minutes after completing the paper. He was taken to MTRH, where he received specialised care but died despite efforts to save his life.
The school administration described him as a dedicated learner whose determination to pursue education remained evident despite his health challenges.
Principal Josiah Korir said the school fraternity was deeply saddened by the loss, describing Kiplagat as humble, hardworking and focused. He said the school had put in place counselling sessions to help fellow candidates, teachers and other students cope with the emotional impact of losing one of their own during the national examination period.(Education News Kenya — https://educationnews.co.ke/news/ack-kaptebee-kcse-candidate-dies-after-sitting-mathematics-paper)
Mr Korir spoke after accompanying members of the school's Board of Management and Ministry of Education officials to visit and console the bereaved family.
A family source said Kiplagat, popularly known as Kiplaa, had been living with diabetes since the age of four and had been on medication.
His death has highlighted the determination of learners facing serious health challenges to pursue their academic ambitions under difficult circumstances. As the KCSE examinations continue across the country, the ACK Kaptebee community is mourning a candidate whose educational journey ended before he could realise his aspirations.
