The government has successfully implemented the new financing model for the 2022 KCSE candidates who have just joined their first year of university, Principal Secretary (PS) in charge of the State Department for Higher Education and Research Dr. Beatrice Inyangala has said.

In a speech read by David Wahome on her behalf during the 15th graduation ceremony at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT), she reiterated that the new model not only ensures stable funding for universities but also allows for a more personalized approach to student financial support.

“The successful implementation of the new funding model is an important step taken by the Government to provide stable funding for Universities,” she said.

Dr. Inyangala added that the categorization will enable the University Funding Board to determine the appropriate funding level for each student in terms of scholarships and loans.

“By tailoring financial assistance to the specific needs of each student, the government aims to ensure that all deserving candidates have access to quality education,” she added.

The PS lauded the University for its unwavering dedication to its core mandate in the field of technology.

“As an institution of higher learning, DeKUT has consistently championed technological advancements and embraced research as a means to address societal challenges and foster innovation,” she said.

Dr. Inyangala added that the varsity has made remarkable strides in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programmes, with an impressive 92% of the courses offered focusing on these crucial disciplines.

“An impressive 75% of the students at DeKUT are enrolled in STEM subjects, indicating the institution’s emphasis on producing graduates equipped with the skills demanded by today’s rapidly evolving world,” she said.
