KUCCPS opens its portal for 2024 placements

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its portal for 2024 placements in colleges, Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and Universities.

The placement body has called on all students who sat their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national exams from 2000 to 2022 and the class of 2023 to apply for placement via the student portal: student.kuccps.net.

The online portal is open for placement of students to Universities, TVET institutions, Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs), and the Open University of Kenya (OUK).

In the last year’s placement cycle, 285,167 candidates who sat the 2022 KCSE exams managed to secure spots for degree, diploma, and arts programmes in 282 institutions, which cumulatively had declared total capacities totaling 768,624.

140,107 candidates were placed in university programmes; with 130,485 being placed in public universities which declared total capacities of 200,621; and 9,662 to private universities which had capacities of 52,312.

Another 144,500 were placed in TVET Institutions that cumulatively declared total capacities of 513,426. Those placed in TVET institutions include 13,465 who were placed in University TVETs that had capacities of 20,168; another 125,507 students were placed in public TVETs managed by the Ministry of Education that had a capacity to accommodate 478,308 students while 5,528 students were placed in non-MOE TVETs which had a capacity of 14,950.

Only 560 students were placed in secondary Teacher Training Colleges (Diploma Teachers Training Colleges) that had capacities of 2,265 students. 9,673 students qualified for degree courses but opted to be placed in TVET institutions.

In the 2023 KCSE results where 899,453 candidates sat for the examination, the number of candidates who attained the minimum university entry qualification (Grade C+ and above) was 201,133 (22.27 percent) while the number of candidates who scored a pass grade (grade D+ and above) were 526,222 (58.27 percent).
