Nandi parents alarmed as hospital records 10 suspected sodomy cases this year

A red flag has been raised over rising cases of alleged sodomy in parts of Nandi County, leaving parents increasingly concerned about the safety of their children.

The concern follows an incident in Kipsirichoi in which a five-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted.

According to reports, the child complained of pain to his mother. Upon examining him, she suspected he had been assaulted and rushed him to hospital for medical attention.

Hospital reports rise in cases

Kapsabet County Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Richard Chepkwony confirmed the incident, revealing that the facility has handled 10 suspected sodomy cases since the beginning of the year.

“We have handled 10 sodomy cases since the beginning of the year,” said Dr. Chepkwony.

He added that the five-year-old boy is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

“The child is receiving treatment at our facility. During assessment, he disclosed that the alleged perpetrator is someone well known to him and that the abuse had allegedly been taking place for about a week,” he said.

Dr. Chepkwony called for thorough investigations to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Residents, led by Joyce Sirgoi and Florence Kirui, expressed shock over the reported incidents, describing them as disturbing and calling for urgent intervention.

Parents are now demanding increased security patrols and additional medical personnel to assess children in the affected areas.

They also urged authorities to strengthen child protection measures and ensure all reported cases are thoroughly investigated.
