- The move follows Antonina Lentoijoni’s elevation from the staffing directorate to become a TSC commissioner.
- TSC has, however, not publicly announced who will replace Marigat as Nairobi Regional Director.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Nairobi Regional Director Dr Samwel Marigat has been appointed Director of Staffing at the commission’s headquarters, succeeding Antonina Lentoijoni following her elevation to the commission.
The appointment moves Marigat to one of the most influential directorates at TSC headquarters, responsible for key teacher management functions including recruitment, deployment, promotions, transfers and related staffing processes.
Education News has established that Marigat is taking over the position previously held by Lentoijoni, now a commissioner at the teachers’ employer.
As of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, TSC had not publicly communicated who will succeed Marigat as Regional Director for Nairobi.
Marigat has risen steadily through the commission’s field administration structures.
He moved to Nairobi earlier this year after serving as Rift Valley Regional Director, replacing Victoria Muoka in changes announced in January.
Before his elevation to the regional level, Marigat had served as Kisumu County Director.
His appointment to Nairobi followed a series of senior-level changes affecting regional and county offices.
In April, TSC also confirmed him among six senior officers who had successfully undergone interviews for Regional Director positions, effectively formalising a role he was already performing.
Before the latest headquarters appointment, Marigat had increasingly taken on responsibilities extending beyond Nairobi.
A TSC staffing circular earlier this year designated him as the commission’s liaison officer with the Ministry of Education on co-curricular activities, underscoring his growing role in national coordination.
He was also previously a county director in Mombasa before later serving in other stations and rising to the regional level.
Lentoijoni leaves staffing after years at the helm
Lentoijoni’s exit from the Staffing Directorate follows her appointment as a member of the TSC.
She had served as acting Director of Staffing from July 2022 before becoming substantive director in August 2024. In that role, she oversaw major teacher-management functions including recruitment, deployment, promotions, transfers and staffing data systems.
President William Ruto initially nominated Lentoijoni alongside former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion in July 2026. The two were subsequently vetted and approved by Parliament in August.
Ruto formally appointed them through a special Kenya Gazette notice dated August 31, 2026, giving each a six-year term on the commission.
They were sworn in on September 10, 2026, at the Supreme Court in a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome, formally ending Lentoijoni’s tenure as Director of Staffing.
Her elevation created the vacancy now being filled by Marigat.
Marigat takes over the Staffing Directorate at a particularly busy period for the commission, with recruitment, promotions and deployment of teachers remaining among TSC’s most closely watched functions.
The staffing directorate coordinates teacher recruitment and posting across the country and works closely with regional, county and sub-county offices.
TSC recruitment guidelines place Regional Directors at the centre of coordinating recruitment exercises, sensitising field officers and handling complaints within their regions.
Marigat’s combination of county, regional and national coordination experience therefore places him at the centre of the commission’s staffing operations as he assumes the headquarters role.

Attention will now turn to TSC’s next move in Nairobi, where the commission is yet to publicly announce a replacement Regional Director.
