A 29-year-old kidney patient from Matungulu in Machakos County is appealing to Kenyans to help raise KSh. 4 million for urgent kidney transplant.
Eric Mutua Munyao,a Political Science and IT graduate has reached out to Kenyans to help raise the amount as a last resort, having exhausted all avenues to regain his failing health.
Munyao recounted his sorrowful story as narrated below;
“My name is Erick Mutua Munyao, I come from Machakos County, Matungulu East Sub County,Kathiani/Mitaboni Ward, Syulungu Sub-location. I am 29 years of age.
I attended Komarock Primary then later Wambiti Primary school, went to Kyang’ondu Secondary school then joined Maseno University for my first degree in Political Science with IT.
Later on in the year 2022, upon graduating, I was diagnosed with Kidney Failure (both), well known as Chronic Kidney Disease, then admitted in Hospital for 2 months at Makueni County Referral Hospital. Upon admission, dialysis was identified as the only viable means of survival. For the last 3years now, I have been on dialysis since I cannot pass any urine. In my dialysis sessions at Wote, I lost my eyesight- both eyes, which after advices to have the error corrected, I moved to Kitengela to have the problem corrected at City Eye Hospital which they executed perfectly and successfully. I booked a slot to dialyze at Kitengela West Hospital where I do my dialysis sessions up to date.

Since I couldn’t pass urine from June 2022 up to date, I was advised to opt for Kidney transplant, considering my age and the effects after dialysis which include;loss of eyesight, blood pressure fluctuations, general body weakness, loss of weight, body pains, backaches and loss of minerals in the body.
In February last year, I consulted several hospitals both locally and in India regarding a kidney transplant. After evaluating the options and considering the success rates, I chose MP Shah Hospital in Parklands as my preferred facility. I also received advice and cost estimates from hospitals in India.
The total cost for the full procedure including; pre-transplant tests, the transplant itself, and post-transplant care amounts to approximately 4 million Kenyan Shillings.
Despite our best efforts, we’ve only managed to raise a fraction of the required funds. We’ve organized harambees, created WhatsApp groups, and sought support from friends and well-wishers. Unfortunately, we are still far from our target, and the process has come to a standstill.
