Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Chepkoilel branch Executive Secretary Sammy Bor has pledged to support the newly appointed Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), Ezekiel Machogu urging him to empower teachers so as to enable them deliver quality education.

“We, the teachers pledge to support CS Machogu in achieving the goals for quality education because it is key to development,” said Bor.

Speaking to the press in his office recently, Bor commended President Ruto for appointing Machogu and said that he was confident that he would steer the education sector in the right direction due to his vast experience in public service.

“Due to his experience in public service, he will be able to deliver to Kenyans. I urge him to be keen on the goals that were set by the previous Education CS and the targeted shift shall occur successfully,” he said.

He said that the call for a review on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) was timely and it would solve a myriad of challenges and misunderstandings so far experienced.

“The appointment of the task force should be done as soon as possible and should include people who are knowledgeable as far as education management is concerned and who are probably teachers and parents,” said Bor.

Bor added that its implementation had unearthed several challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and insufficient teachers.

“Due to the expected twin transition in January next year, more infrastructure and staff is needed for 100% transition to be achieved,” he concluded.
