Kisii Woman MP calls for better nutrition of children to boost education

Kisii County Woman Representative Doris Aburi has asked the county government to improve health facilities in the maternity wards so that mothers can give birth to healthy children.

She said that for the best education standards to be achieved in the country, governments should improve children’s health, nutrition, and protection in their earlier lives.

“The formative years of the child are very important because they lay the foundation for their future life,” she said.

The Woman Rep was speaking at Magena Health Centre in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency yesterday, where a mother died over alleged negligence by the staff as she was giving birth.

Aburi, flanked by more than four Woman Representatives, including Ruth Odinga(Kisumu) and Jerusah Momanyi of Nyamira County and Kenyenya Subcounty Deputy County Commissioner William Kibet, proposed that Magena Health Centre be closed until it is renovated and equipped to offer effective services.

According to Aburi, the late Phanice Ratemo would not have died if Magena Health Hospital had the medical equipment to run its maternity wing efficiently.

Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga castigated the facility’s poor standards and called for urgent intervention by the Kisii County Government to facilitate all regional health facilities for the residents’ good.

Their counterpart from Vihiga County, Dr Beatrice Adagala, appealed to the national government to visit Magena Hospital, inspect its pathetic state, and use it to sample the poor state of health facilities in the country.

An independent survey by Education News revealed wanting stars of healthy health centres in Kisii County.

The mist-affected ones include Kiogoro, Nyamache, Kenyenya and Masimba.
