Kisii County Government has pledged to continue championing transformative initiatives in education, transport, and health, with Governor Simba Arati affirming that the country’s future depends on strong foundations laid to nurture its young people.
Speaking on Saturday during a New Year thanksgiving service at Nyamagwa SDA Church, the Governor, flanked by his deputy, Elijah Obebo, announced the rollout of a massive feeding programme targeting all ECDE learners across the county.
The initiative will begin on January 15, one week after schools reopen.
Under the programme, all ECDE pupils will receive milk provided by the county government every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
“Quality education is the beacon of hope, and its foundation lies in Early Childhood Development. That is why we must feed these children, who represent our future,” Arati said.
The Governor also revealed that County Education Bursary Application forms will be circulated from mid‑January. He urged applicants to fill them diligently and return them within a month to enable quick processing. He assured that all secondary and middle‑level college students who apply will receive a minimum of Sh5,000, up from Sh3,000 last year, depending on individual needs.

Arati highlighted the Elimu na Simba Education Sponsorship Programme, which he said has significantly expanded access to education by creating partnerships that support learners financially, emotionally and intellectually. He encouraged students to embrace self‑discipline and adhere to institutional rules to foster a conducive learning environment.
Beyond education, the Governor underscored the importance of transport infrastructure, noting that his administration has purchased tractors and graders worth Sh1.4 billion to improve feeder roads across the county.
He further thanked the church for its role in promoting education by sponsoring learning institutions and fostering peace through the word of God, which he said unifies communities. Arati, who recalled being raised in a church that emphasized education, love and honesty, urged residents to uphold integrity in all areas of service.
The Governor concluded by wishing Kisii residents a prosperous New Year, reiterating his government’s commitment to delivering impactful programmes that uplift the community.
