Pupils participating at the County Level Primary Schools Games at Mumbuni High school, Machakos county can now heave a sigh of relief after the Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi donated 30 mattresses.

The Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association (KPSSA) Assistant Treasurer in Machakos County Faith Munyao had earlier raised concern over some of the students sleeping on the floor while others were using worn-out mattresses.

“I called upon well-wishers to help with mattresses and among those who came to help is the Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi who came and saw how the situation was,” she said.

She added: “He promised to help and today I am glad to announce that we have received 30 mattresses that will be used by the children who will now sleep comfortably. The mattresses are not enough but will go a long way.”

Munyao said that the mattresses will also be used even by those proceeding to the National Level to be held in Embu county adding that the pupils are also in need of branded sportswear.

Joshua Muli, Director at the Office of the Deputy Governor urged well-wishers to come out and offer support to the pupils in a bid to ensure they participate in the games comfortably.

“There is still more that needs to be done and I would urge anyone who can help to come forward. These children need us,” he said.
