A four-year-old schoolboy is fighting for his life at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) after he was rescued from a burning house neighbouring a shop that had caught fire in Suneka town, Bonchari constituency.

The mysterious fire, which reportedly broke out on Sunday night, burnt 10 shops and goods worth millions of shillings.

A trader, Ednah Kwamboka, disclosed that she had secured a bank loan worth Ksh300,000 for her salon business but she was now at a loss on how she would pay school fees for her children.

“I have three children in high school, and now I feel like the whole world is on my shoulders after losing everything from my shop which was the main source of my family’s upkeep,” she said.

She appealed to well-wishers to come to her aid so her children continue with their education.

Residents and traders appealed to both national and county governments to assist them in starting life afresh even as they accused the county’s firefighters of their slow response.

They also called on the county administration to ensure the availability of fighter fighting vessels in every sub-county to mitigate the rising cases of fire outbreaks in the region.

Kisii County Commissioner Joseph Kibet confirmed the unfortunate incident and ordered the police to carry out investigations to establish the cause of the fire.

“My officers are on the ground and I will keep you in touch as investigations progress,” he said.
