Property of unknown value destroyed at St. Andrews Kaggwa girls boarding primary school in a fire that razed a dormitory at the institution.

The inferno that occurred at 5am after the learners had gone for dawn preps has left 140 pupils affected after they lost their personal items.

Lawrence Mandere the area parish priest told the Education News they were alerted by screams from the pupils at 5:40am.

“We were unable to save any item from the inferno that started shortly after the pupils went to class for the morning classes. We were alerted by the children who screamed for help when the fire broke out,” said Mandere.

Mandere also noted that no pupil was hurt in the incident.

“Despite losing their personal belongings, they are all safe and unhurt. We have, therefore, urged parents who came to the school after they heard of the incident to go back home since there is adequate room to comfortably accommodate the learners bearing in mind the time lost during the long holiday they spent at home due to Covid-19 pandemic. We wish to have the learners spend more time in school to cover time lost in their studies,” he added.

The parish priest also noted they had so far received 70 blankets and mattresses from a well-wisher and still hoped to get more support from the stakeholders they had contacted for assistance.
