Property worth millions of shillings has been destroyed in Nyaduong mixed secondary school in Suna East Sub-county of Migori County following fire incident in the school girls’ dormitory.
Some of the properties that had been completely destroyed were wooden beds and other personal items.
The school cook had noticed smoke from the building and raised alarm.
Confirming the incident area DCC Denis Mutiso said they suspect the fire was caused by an electric fault since the meter box was completely destroyed during the inferno and the Kenya power company has been informed to help. Investigation has started.
“Since the meter box is completely destroyed, we suspect it could have been as a result of an electric fault.” Said Mutiso adding that the structure which accommodates 29 girls and its roofing is still intact.
County Government of Migori has put measures in place to ensure the affected students receive beddings.
