A fire broke out at Nyanchwa Girls High School in Kisii on Saturday evening, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and damaging part of the school’s infrastructure.
The incident prompted a swift response from emergency teams, with medical responders from the nearby Adventist Hospital among those who rushed to the school to assist and secure the affected area.
School authorities and first responders moved quickly to evacuate students from areas affected by the fire, relocating them to a designated safe zone as firefighters and rescue personnel worked to contain the flames.
The evacuation helped ensure the safety of the learners as emergency personnel battled the blaze and assessed the situation.

The full extent of the damage to the school’s facilities had not been immediately established, while the cause of the fire was also yet to be confirmed.
Authorities are expected to conduct investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak and determine the extent of the property destroyed.
