The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched inquiries into the death of a Grade 9 student at CITAM Schools Ngong, who died on Monday morning, July 13, after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a school building.
In a statement issued to parents and guardians, the school confirmed that the Head of School and members of staff responded immediately after the learner fell. The student received emergency medical attention at the scene before being rushed to Karen Hospital, in consultation with her parents, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
CITAM Schools said the incident was reported to Ngong Police Station shortly after it occurred and that the institution is fully cooperating with the DCI and other relevant authorities as investigations continue. “Following the incident, the school administration proceeded to Ngong Police Station to officially report the matter. We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),” read the statement.
CITAM Schools also pledged to provide professional counselling and pastoral support to the bereaved family, as well as to learners and staff affected by the tragedy, as the community comes to terms with the loss.
The circumstances surrounding the student’s death remain unclear. Reports indicate that the family has dismissed unverified claims that the incident was a suicide and is seeking answers over what transpired, as detectives work to piece together the sequence of events.

The school has appealed to the public to refrain from speculation and the spread of unverified information, noting that the ongoing police investigations are expected to establish the circumstances leading to the student’s death.
“We respectfully request all members of our school community to refrain from speculation or the circulation of unverified information, whether in person or on social media, out of respect for the bereaved family and to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigations,” the statement read.
