- Teachers will take part in sports, environmental conservation, school visits and talent showcases ahead of World Teachers’ Day.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), in partnership with stakeholders, has unveiled a series of activities to mark this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebrations, with teachers set to participate in sports, environmental conservation, school visits and talent showcases.
The celebrations will culminate on October 5, when teachers from across the country join their counterparts worldwide to celebrate the teaching profession and recognise their contribution to the education sector.
The activities will begin on September 27 with 5km and 10km races at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi. Physically fit and talented teachers have been encouraged to register online through the TSC website and participate in the event.
Organisers have also appealed to sponsors to support the races by providing additional T-shirts for participating teachers.
Tree planting and school visit
On September 29, teachers and stakeholders will take part in a tree-planting exercise at St George’s Senior and Comprehensive School as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation.
The following day, September 30, TSC commissioners and other education stakeholders will visit Wangu Comprehensive School to observe practical learning activities in a Junior School setting.
On October 1, teachers will converge at Moi Forces Academy for a Teachers’ Open Day, where they will have an opportunity to showcase their talents in athletics, ball games, music, acrobatics and other activities.
The Open Day will also feature a medical camp, with further details on registration expected to be communicated by the organisers.
TSC has urged teachers to participate actively in the activities and use the celebrations to showcase their talents, strengthen professional bonds and take pride in their contribution to the country’s education system.

The grand celebrations will be held on October 5 at Nyayo Stadium, bringing the week-long activities to a close.
World Teachers’ Day is observed annually on October 5 to recognise the vital role teachers play in shaping learners and contributing to national development.
