- Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student Anne Adhiambo, 29, was found dead in her hostel room at the Nairobi campus on July 7, with a post-mortem later establishing that she died from multiple internal injuries.

- Police are investigating the circumstances of her death as her parents, who travelled from Migori, press KMTC and law enforcement for justice.
Police are investigating the death of a 29-year-old Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student who was found dead in her hostel room at the institution’s Nairobi Campus on July 7, in circumstances her family says point to a violent assault.
The deceased, Anne Adhiambo, was a student pursuing a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery (Anaesthesia) at the college. Her body was discovered by her roommate, and preliminary findings pointed to the possibility that she had been assaulted before her death, according to reports.
A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday, July 10, at the Nairobi Funeral Home established that Adhiambo died from multiple internal injuries. The examination also noted bruising on her abdomen, black marks around her tongue, and bloodstains around her nose and ears, findings that have fuelled suspicions of foul play as detectives continue piecing together the events leading to her death.
Adhiambo’s father, Bavin Wambo, said he learned of his daughter’s death through a late-night phone call from her roommate.
“On July 7, I received a call from her roommate around 11 pm informing me that my daughter was no more. She found Anne lying on the floor with her legs blocking the door,” he said.

According to Wambo, the events that preceded his daughter’s death were set in motion two days earlier. He said that on July 5, Adhiambo reported that her trousers had been stolen and later spotted another student wearing them in a different hostel. He claims his daughter was convinced to follow the student to her room to identify the trousers.
“We were informed that while at that hostel, Anne was attacked by five girls. The injuries led to her death,” Wambo said, recounting what the family was told after making inquiries at the institution.
Adhiambo’s parents travelled from Migori seeking answers over their daughter’s death but were informed by KMTC that the matter was under police investigation. They recorded statements with police on Saturday, July 11, as detectives continued piecing together the circumstances of her death. The family was later allowed into the hostel to retrieve their daughter’s belongings.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Adhiambo’s mother, Gertrude Akinyi, appealed for justice as investigations continue. “KMTC, police and all relevant authorities, please pursue justice for Anne,” she said.
