Uasin Gishu county government will launch a milk feeding programme for Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) institutions in the area on May 23, 2023.
According to the County Executive for Education Dr. Janeth Kosgei, the county has already allocated Ksh 60 million for the ECDE Milk Feeding Programme in the current financial year and the procurement has been finalized and packaging is currently ongoing.
“We are launching the programme tentatively on 23rd May. We have been working well in preparation for the event and our milk is from KCC. We want to provide milk to all learners to boost their nutrition and ensure they attend,” noted Dr. Kosgei.
The CECM further noted that her department is currently working on data collection in a bid to ensure all ECDE centres are ready to handle the milk.
The program targets to increase enrollment and retention of the 40,000 ECDE learners in the county.
Dr. Kosgei said the programme is part of the Governor Jonathan Bii’s commitment to ensure the needs of children are fully catered for.
“We appreciate our Governor for focusing on ECDEs. He has seriously invested in early childhood learning and has already confirmed employment for all ECDE teachers,” she said.
