Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS), Dr. Belio Kipsang’, has said that 16,000 classrooms are being constructed across the country to ease the strain on available classrooms in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).

Of these 11,000 classrooms will be built by the Ministry of Education while the remaining 5,000 will be constructed through the National Government – Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty.

Dr. Kipsang’ emphasized that the classroom construction project is crucial to accommodate the growing number of learners in JSS, adding that the project was already on track.

He said that in West Pokot, which is part of the first phase of the project, more than half of the classroom construction has already been done.

“Despite the challenges posed by the region’s rugged terrain and the long distances required to source building materials, these schools have made remarkable progress, exceeding initial expectations,” he said.
