Cheptalal Girls’ High School in Bomet County is celebrating a major milestone after their star Cynthia Chepkemoi, earned a call-up to the Kenya U-20 National Volleyball Team.

The talented Form Four student was officially selected by the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) and is set to represent the country in the upcoming African Championship in Cameroon.

Chepkemoi, caught the eyes of many during the just concluded regional volleyball Games, where she played a key role in Cheptalal’s recent success, helping the team secure a place in the national tier after a hard-fought final at regional level.

Her outstanding performance has now paid off as she looks to venture nationally.

She will join the national squad in a residential training camp alongside Sharon Jepkogei, also known as Shakahola, a former Kaboson Girls’ student who is also part of the U-20 team.

Shakahola was a household name in last year’s volleyball Games where Kaboson Girls performed exemplary well.

The selection of Chepkemoi highlights the importance of high school games in spotting young talent. Just like Aldrine Kibet, who was picked from school football competitions and now plays internationally, this this means high school games should receive much needed support from all stakeholders and talents should be tapped there in.

As the nation looks ahead to the African Championship, hopes are high that Chepkemoi and her fellow young stars will carry Kenya’s flag with pride and determination.
