Trained Early Years Teachers Association (TETA) National Chairman Kennedy Koech has said that the organization is at an advanced stage in brokering a deal with county governments that would see Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers get better pay.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Education News, the teachers champion noted that the organization is fully committed in realizing uniformity of teachers’ salary and scheme of service for teachers across the 47 counties to improve terms of pay.
“We want to push for better remuneration for teachers and terms of Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) terms to be effected .This would greatly realize our organization’s goals towards fighting for the rights of the abandoned segment ,’’ said the optimistic Koech.
The distinguished ECDE crusader reiterated tremendous strides TETA has attained since inception in 2018 in channeling views of members amicably.
“ECDE teachers have found a network to air their views and grievances in a centered place and within the confines of the law through our organization.
We urge members across all counties in the country to join the organization to allow their issues addressed by their umbrella body,’’ the scholar pleaded the ECDE teachers.K
Koech however said that despite ECDE being a devolved function, most the counties were paying their teachers meager salaries which delays most of the time.
The Nandi County Chairman and ECDE Coordinator said disparities in teachers’ salaries in counties will be addressed once teachers employing body Teachers Service Commission (TSC) absorb them and come up with a fair Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The educationist lauded efforts by county governments like Nandi for unending role for reaching agreements with the sub sector on payment.
He said the move by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang to support them has significantly increased appetite for teachers who had yearned for better terms.
The ECDE coordinator underscored achievement of the county for its uniqueness in paying teachers according to their cadres. According to agreement reached by Nandi County Government and ECDE teachers; Degree, Diploma and certificates holders reached on a working deal with them in paying them progressively through two phases.
