You will Face Arrests if your Children Fail to Report to School, Chief Warns Parents

By Lydia Ngoolo

Makindu area Chief Jackson Kimende has warned parents whose children have not reported by the end of first week of school opening that they will be arrested.

“Unless you have a genuine reason, but I also wonder what genuine reason you can give after a whole week. We will not listen to any other excuse since all children must get their basic right to education,” Kimende said.

He was speaking at Ikungu primary school in Makindu Sub-county of Makueni County. Kimende added that following the 100 percent transition to secondary schools directive, all children who complete primary school must join secondary schools whether day or boarding.

Former Makindu Ward MCA Bernered Musau called upon principles to reduce school fees as per the directive from Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.

He observed that it is a pity that even after the CS announced that fee should be reduced in public secondary schools, parents are still digging deep in their pockets to pay fees instead of being relieved of certain percentage.

“The economy is tough, considering the school requirements especially school uniform which is fetching an amount almost half of the school fees, then you add the school fee itself, kindly consider reducing the fees,” he added.

He pointed out that the school term was too short and therefore hectic for parents to look for school fees within such a period.
