West Pokot governor agrees to hear ECDE teachers’ grievances

West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin. He has agreed to sit down with KUNOPPET and discuss the demands they have placed on the table.

After a heightened impasse between the Early Childhood Education Teachers (KUNOPPET) and West Pokot County Government, the two parties have held a consultative meeting to understand the teachers’ challenges and address them amicably.

Speaking during the meeting, the secretary general outlined that teachers were fully committed to ensuring that they delivered on their mandate and thanked the governor for setting time to accommodate the teachers.

The talks which were mainly centred on the terms and conditions of service for all ECDE teachers encouraged openness and sincerity in addressing pertinent matters.

ECDE leadership presented their members’ grievances and appealed for a lasting solution to their challenges.

On his side, the governor promised to put plans in place to fully and conclusively address the teachers’ concerns through dialogue rather than litigation.

He promised to improve the terms and conditions of all the serving ECDE teachers faster than they imagined.
