University of Eldoret announces 2026/2027 TAGDev scholarships for economically disadvantaged students

The University of Eldoret (UoE) has officially opened applications for the TAGDev 2.0 Scholarship Programme for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) and the Mastercard Foundation, alongside other African universities. It forms part of a 10‑year programme (2023–2033) designed to “skilling and empowering Africa’s young people and their institutions to drive inclusive, equitable and climate resilient transformation of agriculture and agrifood systems.”

The scholarships are intended to support academically competent but economically disadvantaged students, with special encouragement for female applicants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and persons with disabilities. According to the call, “females, refugees, internally displaced persons, and persons with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.”

Applications are open for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the University of Eldoret. Eligible undergraduate courses include the Bachelor of Education in Home Science Technology, BSc. Entrepreneurship, BSc. Agribusiness Management, and Bachelor of Science in Agroforestry and Rural Development. Postgraduate options include MSc. Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, MSc. Computer Science, and MSc. Agricultural Extension Education. Admission requirements vary by programme, with undergraduate entry requiring a minimum mean grade of C+ at KCSE or equivalent qualifications.

Eligibility for the scholarships is restricted to nationals of Kenya and East African countries under the Higher Education Protocol, including Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan. Applicants must be under 30 years for undergraduate studies and under 35 years for master’s programmes. They should have completed secondary school or diploma studies within the last two years, or within four years for refugees and internally displaced persons. Candidates must demonstrate “interest in agriculture, agribusiness and entrepreneurship,” leadership qualities, and a commitment to community transformation.

The scholarship is comprehensive, covering tuition fees, research costs, workshops, conferences, living expenses including stipend and hostel, laptops, internship attachments, community engagement, field attachments, and entrepreneurship training. The call emphasizes that “successful applicants will be required to become high achievers, highly engaging and focused students/graduates and change makers contributing to outreach services in the communities.” Refugees and displaced persons will receive support with travel documents, while persons with disabilities will be provided with assistive devices to aid learning and mobility.

The scholarship will be renewed annually subject to satisfactory academic performance at grade B level. Retaking more than four courses will lead to withdrawal, and misconduct such as examination malpractice or violence will result in automatic disqualification. Applicants found to have falsified information will also be disqualified. Successful beneficiaries are expected to remain engaged as alumni, serving as transformative leaders and entrepreneurs.

Candidates must apply for admission to their chosen programme at the University of Eldoret. Forms can be downloaded from www.uoeld.ac.ke/downloads/apply and submitted either physically to P.O Box 1125‑30100, Eldoret, Kenya, or electronically to registraracademics@uoeld.ac.ke.

Applicants must submit their scholarship applications through the RUFORUM Information Management System (RIMS) at https://rims2.ruforum.org/, using Call ID: RU/2026UniEldoret/TAGDev 2.0.

The deadline for submission is 1st May 2026. Key virtual information session days will be communicated in due course.
