TSC announces 30 internship opportunities for graduates across six professional fields

  • The year-long programme targets unemployed Kenyan graduates aged between 21 and 35 years and offers a monthly stipend of KSh25,000.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened applications for 30 internship opportunities for the 2026/2027 financial year, offering young graduates a chance to gain practical work experience while enhancing their professional skills and competitiveness in the job market.

In the advertisement released by the Commission, TSC said the internship programme is being implemented in line with the Government Internship Policy and Guidelines for the Public Service and is intended to equip qualified Kenyan youth with hands-on experience in various professional fields.

“The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is an independent Commission established under Article 237 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010,” the advert states.

It further notes: “In line with Government Internship Policy and Guidelines for the Public Service, the Commission intends to offer internship opportunities to qualified youth in various areas of specialization to gain practical work experience which will improve their competencies and competitiveness in their career life.”

According to the Commission, the internship opportunities have been distributed across six professional disciplines, with Human Resource Management receiving the highest allocation.

The available internship positions include:

  • Human Resource Management Officers – 10 vacancies
  • Records Management Officers – 7 vacancies
  • Information Communication Technology (ICT) Officers – 5 vacancies
  • Finance Officers and Accountants – 4 vacancies
  • Legal Officers – 2 vacancies
  • Counsellors – 2 vacancies

All successful interns will serve for a period of 12 months.

Qualifications for each internship

The Commission has outlined specific academic qualifications for every internship category.

Applicants for Records Management positions must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Records and Archives Management, Library Science, Bachelor of Technology in Information Studies or a Higher National Diploma in Records or Archive Management. Knowledge of Electronic Documents and Records Management Systems (EDRMS), together with computer applications, will be an added advantage.

Legal Officer applicants must hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, legal research and communication in both English and Kiswahili.

For Counsellor positions, applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Counselling Psychology.

ICT Officer applicants are required to hold degrees in Computer Science, Information Communication Technology, Software Engineering, Informatics and Computer Science, Computer Networks and Cyber Security, Business Information Technology, Information Security and Forensics, or equivalent qualifications.

Applicants seeking Human Resource Management internships must possess either a Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Human Resource Management, or a degree in Social Sciences or Business Administration together with a Diploma in Human Resource Management.

Finance Officer and Accountant applicants should hold degrees in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Business Studies or Statistics, in addition to CPA Part II or ACCA Level II qualifications.

General eligibility requirements

Beyond academic qualifications, TSC has set out several conditions that applicants must satisfy.

Candidates must:

  • Be Kenyan citizens aged between 21 and 35 years.
  • Have graduated between two and five years ago from accredited institutions.
  • Be unemployed degree or diploma holders.
  • Not have previously served as interns in any public or government institution.
  • Produce a Certificate of Good Conduct upon engagement.

The Commission has also emphasized that applicants should demonstrate integrity, be goal-oriented, possess ICT skills and exhibit strong interpersonal and communication abilities.

The advert states: “Must be a person of integrity.”

It further requires applicants to be: “Goal oriented, dynamic and proficient in ICT.”

Additionally, successful candidates should: “Possess good interpersonal, communications skills and be a team player.”

Internship terms and benefits

TSC says the internship programme will run for 12 months.

Although classified as a non-remunerative programme, the Commission will pay successful interns a monthly stipend of KSh25,000 throughout the internship period.

“This is a non-remunerative position, however, the selected Interns will be paid a stipend of twenty-five thousand (Kshs.25,000) per month,” the advert states.

Successful interns will also be required to secure valid personal accident insurance and medical insurance for the entire internship period.

The Commission further notes that interns may be deployed either to TSC headquarters or county offices, depending on operational requirements.

Application process

Interested applicants are required to submit their applications online through the TSC recruitment portal.

According to the Commission: “Applications should be submitted online through TSC recruitment portal Website: www.tsc.go.ke.”

The Commission has set August 28, 2026, as the deadline for submitting applications.

TSC has reiterated that it is an equal opportunity employer and encouraged qualified applicants from marginalized communities and persons living with disabilities to apply.

The Commission also cautioned applicants that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and clarified that the internship programme does not guarantee permanent employment.

“TSC is an equal opportunity employer. Minorities, marginalized and persons living with disability are encouraged to apply. This is purely an Internship Programme and will not lead to automatic employment at the TSC.”

The Commission also cautions that: “Provision of false information will lead to automatic disqualification.”

Background

The internship programme forms part of the Government’s broader youth empowerment strategy aimed at addressing graduate unemployment by providing workplace exposure before entry into the labour market.

Public institutions have increasingly adopted structured internship programmes to bridge the gap between university education and practical professional experience.

For TSC, the programme also supports capacity building within the Commission by exposing young professionals to public sector administration while creating a pool of experienced graduates who can compete more effectively for future employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
