The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) National Treasurer John Matiang’i has denied claims that he is eyeing the National Secretary General seat currently held by Wilson Sossion.
Speaking to Education News, Matiang’i said he had not made any declarations regarding the position.
“Have I ever dreamt of that? The National Treasury seat has been revolving around Kisii and Ukambani and that has been the tradition,” Matiang’i told Education News in a phone interview.
He said that he had never spoken to anybody regarding the issue of him vying for Secretary General.
“Branch officials know me as a man of principles who says what he means…if there are people who want me to cross, I am not crossing,” said Matiang’i.
He added that he intends to defend his current position in the coming elections and will gladly pave way if he loses.
Matiang’i said he was committed to serving teachers and defending their rights and that is why he once declined an appointment as a commissioner of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
