Bungoma county has launched a mentorship programme for high school students aiming to offer them guidance and counseling sessions during the holiday.

Speaking to the press at Bungoma High School on Thursday, County Chief Officer Sam Nalwa said that they target to reach out to 500 students under the county’s scholarship programme beginning with Bungoma South sub-county.

He said that they hope the programme will counsel, encourage and motivate the students to overcome challenges and perform better in their studies.

“We have perused report cards of all beneficiaries and realized that most are doing well, a good number got better grades in their end term exams,” he said. “The county is getting value for its money.”

Education County Executive Committee Member (CECM), Eng. Agnes Wachiye lauded parents for cooperating with the department to ensure all deserving students get sponsored.

“The main objective of the scholarship is to ensure that vulnerable, needy and bright learners in the county have access to education,” he stated.

In addition, Wachiye said that the county is not only supporting vulnerable learners but also ensuring that they are performing well in school.
