Thwake mega dam project is set to quench the thirst of Makueni, Kitui and Machakos counties residents. Learning institutions are also set to benefit from the water project.
The project, which is located at the border of Makueni and Kitui, is funded by the government and African Development Bank.
Over the years, school children have been forced to walk long distances in search of water for domestic and livestock use.
Sanitation and hygiene in most learning institution is expected to improve.
According to water, sanitation and irrigation Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, the project is set to change the lives of 1.3 million people.
Unyeeo, Mikisi and Kitithi schools are among the beneficiaries.
