After last week’s incident at Maraba Secondary School where a teacher was badly injured following an assault by a student, teachers at the institution have now downed their tools in protest, saying their lives are in danger. The school is in Aldai, Nandi County.
The teachers marched to the sub-county education offices to present their grievances after the attacked. They asked the officers in charge to punish the unruly student.
“The teacher was on his way home after work when students attacked him. We are going to use all means to ensure that justice is served. Teachers are not lesser beings,” said Paul Rotich, Nandi branch Executive Secretary for Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) who led them to the sub-county offices.
Police officers from the area already arrested the suspects who are in custody awaiting investigations.
It is reported that the incident was not the first one as a female teacher was also attacked by students last years.
