A primary school teacher is fighting for his life at Christamarine Mission Hospital in Kisii after he was allegedly attacked by an unknown assailant armed with a machete.
The victim, Walter Bisera, 39, from Ikoro Location in South Mugirango Constituency, said he had travelled to Nyacheki Ward in Nyamache Sub-county to console his uncle following the death of his wife.
Bisera said he had retired for the night in one of his uncle’s houses when the attacker struck at about 2am.
“I darted outside through the open window as I cried for help, but none came for my rescue for unknown reasons as my assailant cut me like sugarcane,” he said from his hospital bed.
Victim suffered multiple injuries
Bisera said he sustained deep cuts on his face, elbow, back and shoulders before the attacker fled after allegedly believing he was dead.
Good Samaritans later rescued him and took him to Nyacheki Health Centre, where he received first aid before being referred to Christamarine Mission Hospital for specialised treatment.
“I took three days before I came to my senses until a few days ago when I started to know that I am in hospital,” he said.
The teacher claimed the suspect questioned him about an earlier encounter in Kisii town, where he allegedly failed to secure accommodation for him.
Bisera appealed to police to investigate the incident thoroughly, arrest the suspect and ensure justice is served.
Police in Nyamache confirmed they have opened investigations into the attack and appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify and arrest the suspect to report to the nearest police station.

If charged, the offences that investigators consider will depend on the evidence gathered and the findings of the investigation. Kenyan law provides different offences and penalties depending on the nature of the injuries and the intent established during prosecution.
